We call on the National Union of Teachers to withdraw its motion promoting LGBT+ issues to toddlers
We call on the National Union of Teachers unequivocally to withdraw its motion calling for the promotion of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT+) issues to children, starting at nursery.
The current campaign actively to promote LGBT+ issues starting at nursery is part of an ideological agenda to undermine and ultimately destroy the traditional values on which our society is based. While lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender adults may see the cultural and social normalization of their sexual preferences as top priority, we maintain that to force such consciousness onto children, who by definition lack the emotional maturity to assimilate and process such behavioural ‘norms’, is a form of child abuse. It will inevitably encourage children to experiment with behaviours that wouldn’t normally occur at such early age, but which carry the potential for enormous and long-lasting harm, both physical and mental.
It is reported in the press (https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/call-to-teach-toddlers-about-transgen…) that the motion was put forward so that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people be ‘told explicitly that their lives are important too’.
Up until now, the reason given for increased sex and relationship education has without exception been for the protection and safeguarding of children in an increasingly perilous world. This statement, focusing as it does on the feelings of those with lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender orientation, without any reference to child safeguarding, marks a significant and highly unwelcome change. It leads indeed to the inevitable conclusion that it is not children’s welfare that is of concern, but rather the normalization and acceptance of minority sexual and transgender diversity.
This ideologically driven policy, if adopted, will not in any way protect children, but can only serve to increase premature sexualisation, encouraging children to experiment with risky behaviours that, left to themselves, they would not consider. In sum, this motion is an insidious attempt to brainwash children into accepting reconfigured sexual norms that prioritise lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights. The harms flowing from such covert coercion can only blight children’s normal and natural development.
In the best interests of children, we therefore call on the National Union of Teachers to withdraw all support for this pernicious and ideologically inspired motion, and to give priority instead to safeguarding children. In particular, we call for children of all ages to be protected from overly graphic and bewildering information.
