The monstrous juggernaut of ideological oppression

Juggernaut:  a very large, heavy truck, similar in effect to a battering ram; a large powerful force or organization that cannot be stopped.  Derived from Sanskrit, describing a huge wagon carrying the image of a Hindu god pulled along in procession.  In the process, many bystanders were commonly crushed to death, though whether as result of throwing themselves under the wheels in mindless self-sacrifice, or by accident, remains a matter for debate.

This surely exactly describes the ideological drive that we are experiencing today to reframe society’s ancient and tested values.

Last week Susan Evans, a former psychiatric nurse at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust Hospital, launched a case in the High Court claiming that many children receiving gender reassignment treatment have been misdiagnosed and are actually autistic, homosexual, or suffering from some form of diagnosable but non-related mental illness, including trauma resulting from sexual abuse.  She is calling for an end to experimental and invasive medical treatment with long-term and currently unknown consequences, arguing that children cannot possibly give informed consent to such life-changing and potentially hazardous treatments, and must be protected from exploitation and abuse (https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2020/01/06/children-cannot-give-consent-transgender-treatment-nurse-launching/).

The rationale seems so transparent and self-evidently simple that the only real question is surely why the case should need to be brought in the first place!  We all know that children are highly impressionable – just as we also know that in the course of growing up and discovering who and what they are, they push the boundaries and experiment.  Inevitably they make mistakes, and childhood should pre-eminently be a place of safety, where they can test themselves and others without fear of irrevocable harm, in the sometimes uncomfortable knowledge that if they go too far, adults will step in and call a halt.  This is all part of growing up – but the one thing that should not happen is that children become prey to ideologues pushing them towards irreversible and life-changing decisions, that will unquestionably affect the rest of their lives and that there is every likelihood they will subsequently bitterly regret.

It is entirely understandable that adults who have made such lifestyle choices want to justify their decisions to the wider world, but the one thing they must not do is force compliance and emulation onto others.  Especially they must not do this to children, who, by definition, lack the intellectual and emotional maturity to assess such information for themselves.  Let us be blunt, however dressed up, this is grooming and a form of child abuse.

We all, one imagines, agree that children need to be protected from sexual exploitation by predators.  But the enforced promotion and normalisation of adult life-style choices which until recently have been regarded as aberrant and a form of mental illness  does not have child welfare at heart, but is rather aimed at embedding these new so-called ‘values’ in society.   No matter the truth of biology and science, under the new RSE Regulations children are being taught that they can choose their gender, that homosexual and heterosexual relationships are exactly the same, and that men can have periods and babies (http://www.mtv.com/news/3143440/always-removing-venus-symbol-period-pads/), as well as go through the menopause.  Just like women … because we’re all the same and it’s all about choice.   And as result of this State-sanctioned, ideologically driven insanity, children are suffering, being made the unknowing and unconscious guinea pigs of a social experiment that cannot possibly succeed without ultimately destroying the human race.

FACTS: Children from a very young age tend to exhibit distinct personality behaviours and preferences linked to their sex, e.g. male children commonly display more aggressive behaviour than females.  There is, however, a very wide spectrum of what constitutes normal sex-typical behaviour, combined with an overlap of personality traits between male and female, which means that some boys will display more female behaviour, and vice versa.  By contrast, ‘gender’ identity develops later, and there is strong evidence to suggest that children below the age of 7 do not have any coherent concept of gender difference at all.  Of children who do display gender incongruence, 90%, if left alone, will have outgrown such feelings by puberty (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5841333/https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/gender-dysphoria/treatment/#treatment-for-children-and-young-people).

We wish every success to Susan Evans in her campaign to stop premature and unwise medical intervention, and especially the dangerous prescription of puberty blockers to children, who have not the slightest idea of the dangers to which they are being exposed.  In 2018, VfJUK ran a petition calling for the prohibition of all treatment for gender reassignment under the age of 18.  Within a week of the petition being posted, the Department of Health printed a direct response on their website, (https://www.gov.uk/government/news/voice-for-justice-uks-campaign-about-gender-reassignment; see also our reply, https://vfjuk.org/news-updates/vfjuks-reply-to-the-governments-rejection-of-call-to-ban-gender-reassignment-treatment-for-under-18s/ ), stating their rejection of our request and unqualified support for current practice.

Such support was, and is, demonstrably wrong.  Once again, we call on the Department of Health to prohibit invasive and life-changing treatments for children under the age of 18 – but, even if they refuse that, at the very least, use of pernicious puberty blockers should be stopped.   Contrary to myth, the effects are not easily reversed, and far more research needs to be done before they can be declared safe.

Please sign our new petition calling for a ban on the prescription of puberty blockers to children.
